The Centers for Disease Control reports that influenza activity peaks in January, so experts say now is an ideal time to get your annual flu vaccine.
A number of grocery chains and local pharmacies are currently advertising flu shot clinics, and your family physician most likely has the vaccine available, as well.
Inova Loudoun Hospital Mobile Health Services is also setting up convenient temporary stops around the county and offering flu shots for adults.
Note that Inova has a new policy this year: Children ages 4 and up can only be vaccinated at the Inova Loudoun Medical Campus in Leesburg, the Dulles South Inova Medical Center in Chantilly and the Inova Loudoun Hospital in Lansdowne. Children getting the flu vaccine at these locations must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
The cost of the flu shot is $25 per person, and seniors with a valid Medicare card will receive the shot for free. Pneumonia shots are also available for seniors and those with chronic diseases at a cost of $45.
