Local NBC anchor Barbara Harrison was in Loudoun recently as part of the channel’s morning news “Up 4 the Challenge” series, which features each WRC personality trying out a different job or activity in the metro area.
Harrison’s challenge — as seen below in the video clip — was dog walking.
Amy Reed and Leslie Barron own Woofie's, a pet-sitting and dog-walking company that serves the Ashburn and Lansdowne communities of Loudoun.
Reed and Barron, who are neighbors, started the business in September 2004. Today, they boast more than 500 clients and employ 20 workers.
Fortunately for these business owners, Woofie's isn’t slowing with the economy. In fact, Reed said, the client list is growing. Business is up 20 percent compared with last year, she said.
Check out some of the furry clients featured in the video: Maggie, Max, Charlie, Bruno, Mystic, Reynolds, Hudson and Cody … with a special in-studio appearance by yellow lab Marley of the upcoming movie, “Marley and Me,” at the end.
Which one of these four-legged friends do you think is the cutest pooch?

This is a joke right? With the money I save from picking up my own taxed dogs leavings, I can pay the increase on my water bill. I had to cancell my gym membership to pay for the increase in trash pick up along with my increase in electric bill. So I can walk my own dog.

i've been a woofies customer for 2 years and as long as i am working outside of the house, i will always consider them a necessity, not a luxury. we chose to get a dog, so we have a responsibility to provide the best possible care for him, which means not leaving him in a crate or alone in the house for 9 hours with no walk or interaction. he COULD go all day without making a mess in the house but it's about MORE than that. the attention, care, good brisk walk from woofies makes him a happier dog, and it's worth every penny.
a few less coffees, a few less lunches out- NOT a huge sacrifice for my four legged son. :)

I agree with tttrenee. I'll reduce other expenses to improve my dog's life.

Yay for Woofies! My mom, sister, and I all use Woofies for our dogs while we are at work. One of the best parts of using Woofies is that Leslie and Amy are such great people to work with. Their business is booming because they know how to provide personal customer service and take their business responsibilities very seriously. Best wishes for their continued success.

This is absolutely bizarre from an economic standpoint. People are going bankrupt and foreclosing on their homes, but a business like this grows 20% in a year?

yes, because many people live within their means, save money, budget their expenses and STAY OUT OF CREDIT DEBT. we just don't make the new headlines- nothing says boring news story like- "Bills Are Paid, no Credit Card Debt."
and- many pet owners treat their pets like family members, woofies is affordable & reliable, and again- NOT viewed as a luxury by pet owners like myself.

This article neatly frames the argument that Americans are spoiled and have so much money that they don't know which car window to throw it out of. We buy pets, and pay other people to walk them and pick up their poop.
